ROMA DAY 1

Ciao from Rome everyone!!! Let me just start of by saying July 1st 2009 was one of the longest days of my life. All day in an airport and three connecting flights, not so much fun … but, we finally made it. Rome is so awesome. Our group finally got to our hotel and we had a little bit of time to get changed and freshen up before we headed out to the Colosseum. The metro here is actually really nice. As nice as a metro can be I guess, and it’s really easy to navigate because there are only two lines running. The first time you see the colosseum coming out of the terminal… let me just say that it is breath taking. We have all seen pictures and we know that it’s big… but when you walk out an actually see it, it BLOWS YOUR MIND!!!

Before we left the hotel Darrin (out teacher) told us that we might want to bring umbrellas and ponchos because it might rain. Rain? In Rome? Not likely right? Well we were getting ready to go into the colosseum and you could see these dark clouds rolling in and all of the sudden we were standing in a full blown rain, lighting, and thunderstorm. We couldn’t believe it, and it seemed to last forever. Our group was huddled up against the outer wall of the roman forum for almost a full hour. We didn’t get to go in the colosseum because of the rain but we ended up at the colossal statue of Constantine and the museum. Very cool. We stayed there till close to dusk and decided that we were hungry. We broke off into groups and headed out to dinner. One group decided to go for hard rock, but me, Megan, Julia, and Amanda decided that we wanted something a little more Italian authentic so we went to this cute little sidewalk restaurant which was delicious. We had to run to the shuttle back to the hotel because it was the last one and then we had to fight our way on because there were tons of us who needed to get on. We finally got back to the hotel around 11pm and because we have a long day ahead of us I think I will say goodnight.
