ROMA DAY 2

Today started at the Borghese Museum. We saw some of the most amazing sculptures there. My favorite was of Apollo and Daphne. As you moved around the statue it’s really cool to be able to see Daphne slowly morph into a tree as Apollo chased her.

After the Museum we were walking back to the metro to head to the Colosseum and I was in desperate need of water because it felt like 100 degrees (plus humidity) outside. I had already finished all of mine from the morning and so I was going to have to buy more. As we walking to the little food carts to buy lunch and water we saw people filling up their water bottles with water coming from the fountains. I was horrified. People get diseases and parasites from drinking dirty water and I couldn’t believe that people would be so stupid to just drink water where they had found it. It wasn’t until later that we all found out that it was ok to drink the water spouting from the fountains because they came from freshwater springs and ran through the roman aqueducts.

This was great news because we had been in Rome for only two days and I am pretty sure that I have already spent 20 euro of water, and now it is free everywhere we go.

We had about a two hour window after the museum before our guided tour so Me, Kylee, Megan, Ashley, Susie, and Darrin (our teachers) went inside the coliseum because were weren’t able to yesterday because of the rain. It is so amazing inside which is ironic because of all of the horr

ible things that happened there. I have seen pictures before but I can’t believe how big it is.

2:45 Darrin announced that we were going on a 3 hour walking tour. For the second time today I was horrified. Don’t get me wrong … I am here to see all these amazing things but three hours walking in the heat and sun and sweat (ew) did not sound like a party to me. BUT… it was so amazing. Our tour guide Antinella was so incredible. She had a lot of facts and she knew what she was talking about but she was passionate about it which made her easier to listen to. We walked and visited three churches : San Climente, The church of Santa Maria, and a church where the statue of Saint Teresa in Ecstacy is held (sorry no pictures again), and then we split up again for dinner.I don’t remember the name of the restaurant we went to but I ordered the spaghetti carbonara.

Carbonara is a creamy eggs and bacon type sauce… um hard to explain but it was delicious, and our waitress was way rude (I think that she hates Americans and there were a lot of us), but we had a great time anyways.

Tomorrow is going to be a blast because we are going to go to the Vatican/St Peter Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. I am pretty sure that where will be plenty of opportunity to take pictures so stay tuned. Buona notte everyone.
